Jayawardene completed his basic education at 'Nalanda College-Colombo' ,a leading boy school in Sri Lanka. In there he polished his talent in cricket and he was able to be the best school boy cricketer of Sri Lanka in year 1994.
He played for 'Sinhalese Sports Club' in 1995 and 'Derbyshire' teams in his domestic career. Currently he plays for 'Kings XI Punjab' in IPL-Indian Premium League. Jayawardene was able to made his Test debut against Indain team at 'R.premadasa Stadium' in Colombo scoring 66 runs,and made his ODI-One Day International at the same ground against Zimbabwe in 1995 scoring 74 runs.Jayawardene was successful with his maiden century in International career
