Canada announces 30 member squad for World Cup 2011


Canada’s preliminary squad is was not of much of a surprise. Still Batsmen Ian Billcliff, who was expected to be in the squad didn’t make it. While rest of the squad was as expected with Ashish Bagai leading the squad and having the experienced John Davison, who had also been active with coach of spin bowling with Cricket Australia.

Ian Billcliff’s exclusion from the squad was a tough decision for the selectors but they said that they were not able to line up their schedule for the preparation tours, so had to leave him out. Billcliff was one of Canada’s top-rated cricketers.

Canada will be playing in the Caribbean T20 in the West Indies, in January which will be their last assignment before the World Cup 2011 campaign. They will also be playing a couple of ODI games with Somerset and Antigua.

Canadian cricket is expecting a lot out of this team which is a well balance of both young and experienced players. They are hoping for positive results from the approaching World Cup. The team is already in a good shape and this World Cup will also decide the future of the Canadian cricket. The final squad will be reduced to 15 after the Caribbean T20 competition.
